We love Nicole!

She’s been supporting our clients since shortly after we opened up shop. Her deep curiosity and desire to learn is inspiring and she never hesitates to roll up her sleeves when the time comes. She’s proven herself time and time again as a developer and typically finds herself on the winning team of any group activity we do. Go figure.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I went to University of Calgary for Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Engineering.

How long have you been a Developer?
I started as a Developer as soon as I graduated, so about 3 years now.

What is your favorite part of being an APPOXIAN?
My favorite part about APPOXIO is my co-workers and the projects I get to work on. Everyone on our team gets along so well and I have the opportunity to learn a lot from my co-workers. The projects I get to work on involve me building new things which I also really like.

Considering you have been at APPOXIO since almost day one, how has the company changed in the past two years?
APPOXIO has grown by about 4 times in size. Everything that is awesome with the company has just multiplied in magnitude since it started. More awesome team members and ServiceNow experiences. More fun projects and clients, and the projects are always unique and provide great opportunities.

What is one of your proudest career moments?
I can’t pinpoint a moment specificity, but it does feel good when I get to see a project come to life from start to finish. I like working on projects where I can learn new skills and try out new things. Those are the best!

What is your favorite piece of technology on the ServiceNow platform?
I like how you can do so much with ServiceNow. There are so many different processes available from one location and that’s the best part. I also like how you can configure ServiceNow a lot or a little, the flexibility is great. The option to customize everything is obviously nice too.

Where can we find you when you are not working?
I like hanging out with my family and friends and doing outside activities with them. You can also find me at the movie theater at least 1 or 2 times a month.

Tell us about some of your favorite reads and movies!
I loved the Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth books. I also enjoy murder mystery books and anything by James Patterson is great.
My favorite movie is too hard to pick, there are so many good ones. I think I would narrow it down to the Star Wars films, Marvel films and the Fast and Furious series.

How was your Knowledge20 experience? Any key takeaways you’d like to share with our readers?
The conference was great especially for being a fully digital experience. I was able to attend a quite a few sessions but there were two that really stood out to me which were:

Advanced Reporting (Lab 1141)
ServiceNow has a lot of useful reporting tips and techniques. To make the most of a report you must plan by identifying your target audience and decide what information you are trying to get across to them. ServiceNow has lots of useful features like data source, drill downs, and datasets that can be added or used on reports. As well as interactive filters that can be added to dashboards to use on certain reports, which could be beneficial in helping to reduce the number of reports required.

Building First Spoke
Spokes are amazing! They represent an integration to one service. They are designed in a way to be reusable, have minimum dependencies (be self-contained), and allow users to integrate faster to another system. A spoke can be built from scratch or by using OpenAPI specifications from IntegrationHub. IntegrationHub also provides lots of helpful steps to create in spokes like JSON parsing, XML parsing, REST scripts and more.
